Friday, Feb. 6, is National Wear Red Day, a day when Americans nationwide will take women's health to heart by wearing red to show their support for women's heart disease awareness.

In the past few years, significant progress has been made in increasing awareness among women that heart disease is the Number 1 killer of women and their Number 1 health risk. Awareness has increased from from 34% in 2000 to 57% in 2006. Still, most women fail to make the connection between risk factors and their personal risk of developing heart disease.

So join this national effort by wearing red on Feb. 6, and encourage your family, friends and coworkers to do the same. Wear your favorite red clothes or accessory – a red blouse, a red dress pin, a fabulous red handbag – put on red lipstick or sport a red tie and red socks. Go red in your own fashion to show your support for women and the fight against heart disease.
