Must-have evening wear accessories
Most designers and retailers would agree that accessories can make any outfit outstanding. "This is a very glamorous season. So anyone going to a black tie event will have a lot to choose from," says Linnea Olson-Schwartz, market director of Elle Accessories.
McGregor notes that this season at Francesca's, coats are hot accessories. "The perfect accessory to complement any beautiful dress is a beautiful timeless coat," she says. "And then of course, there are the jewels. Gold, silver and champagne-
colored jewelry and metals are a holiday season must-have. Plus they complement any dress, no matter the color."
"You might also want to consider a crystal-adorned accessory," says Olson-Schwartz. "There are a lot to choose from as well ... shoes, clutches, jewelry. A big statement necklace is a great addition for a black tie event as well. Another fun way to add an element to your outfit is a great headband, either with feathers or crystal detailing. This is very lady-like. Vintage inspired watches are a nice choice as well."
Jewels will also be found on clutches and evening bags. This season, the evening bag comes in every shape and style, from small handheld bags to oversized large clutches in sleek leathers and linens," says McGregor.
Olson-Schwartz agrees: "This is a big season for the clutch. There are so many options from box clutches to bigger slouchier versions to wrist clutches.
Go for eye-catching dressy shoes
When choosing footwear, it's important to be comfortable, but also chic. Stacy London has several suggestions for what to slip on those gala-ready feet:
"Peep-toe platforms have been ruling the red carpets for a while, and I'm certainly not complaining about that," she says. "But I love colored silk and metallic leather and colored patent leather and as many encrusted jewels as possible! Super-fancy shoes really pop and can turn any black dress into a fantastic look for evening. Black shoes aren't going anywhere," she notes. "So why not try something new and adventurous?"
