Pairing party foods and beer

When it comes to creating a casual party menu in which beer is the beverage of choice, food and beer pairing information is readily available, thanks, for instance, to a site about beer created by Anheuser-Busch.

The site offers lots of information about the full range of beers, from lightest to darkest, plus the proper glasses and serving ideas. Also, there are suggestions on pairing popular dishes with the right beer(s).

Here are a few suggestions from the beer-maker on what type of beer to serve with some of the most popular party fare:

Amber ale: Serve with rich aromatic, spicy, and smokey foods such as chili, BBQ ribs, grilled chicken, and beef.

Belgian style Witbier:  Complements salads with light citrus dressings and feta or goat cheese, as well as ceviches and other light, citrus-flavored dishes.

Blonde ale: Pairs perfectly with many types of sweet, hot, spicy foods such as many Asian dishes, chili, and mango jalapeño salsa.

Stout: Highlights the nuttiness and braised, caramelized character of dishes with brown, savory sauces.
